Apple Leads PC Market Recovery with 51% Growth, According to Canalys Report
Canalys data has revealed that the decline in global PC shipments slowed down in the second quarter of this year, according to the research firm’s report, Apple outperformed other PC manufacturers with a remarkable 51% growth, primarily driven by strong demand for the newly released 15-inch MacBook Air.
The indicates early signs of recovery in the industry, fueled by a new wave of hardware upgrades as consumers and businesses bounce back from the recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Canalys states that the global PC market experienced a 12% decline in shipments in the second quarter of 2023, a much smaller decline compared to the over 30% drops seen in the previous two quarters.
Eshan Dutta, Principal Analyst at Canalys, mentioned, “There are indications that many of the issues that have impacted the sector are starting to recede,” Apple witnessed the most significant growth among major PC manufacturers, shipping 6.8 million units and expanding its market share to 11% from 6.4% the previous year, the company overcame supply chain hurdles and benefited from the demand for the new MacBook Air.
Leading PC market player Lenovo recorded an 18.1% decline in shipments, which is lower than the 30.3% drop it experienced in the previous quarter, similarly, US-based companies HP and Dell saw smaller declines compared to the previous quarter.
Kiran Jesoop, Research Analyst at Canalys, highlighted, “Inventory levels reduced significantly in Q2”, Jesoop added, “All customer segments are set to sequentially improve in the remaining duration of 2023 amid a final push for inventory corrections and stronger seasonal demand in H2.”
However, Canalys expects shipments in 2023 to be lower than in 2022 as consumers prioritize spending on essentials in the face of high inflation and rising interest rates.
